Practising Roundabouts with Your Instructor
The best way to build confidence with roundabouts is through real practice—and that’s exactly what your driving instructor is there for. They’ll introduce you to roundabouts gradually, starting with quieter, single-lane ones before moving on to more complex, multi-lane versions. You won’t be thrown into anything too challenging right away.
During your lessons, you’ll go over things like:
- Approaching roundabouts calmly using the Mirror–Signal–Manoeuvre routine
- Choosing the correct lane depending on where you’re going
- Making safe decisions about when to enter and exit
- Understanding signs, markings, and other drivers’ behaviour
Your instructor will talk you through each step as you drive, and they’ll help you learn how to stay calm even when it feels a bit hectic. Roundabouts often appear on driving test routes, so your instructor will also give you tips specific to your local area.
Don’t worry if it takes a few tries to get it right—that’s completely normal. With each lesson, you’ll feel more in control and ready for anything.
