Why Roundabouts Are Tough for Learners
For many learner drivers, roundabouts are one of the most intimidating parts of driving. Unlike a simple T-junction or traffic light, roundabouts require quick decisions, good lane discipline, and an understanding of who has priority—all while dealing with moving traffic around you. Add in unclear road markings or unfamiliar layouts, and it’s easy to see why roundabouts cause so much stress during driving lessons and tests.
Some of the most common challenges learners face include:
- Not knowing who has priority – especially when markings aren’t obvious
- Choosing the wrong lane – and needing to correct mid-roundabout
- Missing your exit – or exiting unsafely at the last second
- Panicking when traffic builds up – or freezing when unsure whether to go
But with clear guidance and a bit of practice, roundabouts go from confusing to completely manageable.
