Norwich Test Centre

Build confidence for Peachman Way test routes.

Learning to drive is about much more than controlling the car. It’s about building confidence in different road and traffic conditions so that, by the time you pass, everyday driving feels natural rather than stressful.

Cromer is a great place to begin that journey because it gives learners a real mix of driving experience. You can start on quieter residential roads, build confidence around the town, practise parking in calmer locations and then gradually progress towards Norwich for dual carriageways, city driving and test preparation.

Learn Real Driving Skills Around Cromer

As your confidence develops, lessons will introduce you to real situations you’ll come across after passing your test, including:

  • town centre traffic
  • the merge on Prince of Wales Road
  • the unusual give-way layout on Church Street
  • narrow roads with parked vehicles
  • country lanes around North Norfolk
  • national speed limit roads
  • busier summer traffic
  • pedestrians, cyclists and visitors unfamiliar with the area

These roads help you develop proper observation, planning and decision-making skills, rather than simply learning how to follow instructions.

Building Towards Norwich Test Centre

Although much of your early learning takes place around Cromer and nearby villages, your practical driving test will normally be taken at the Norwich Driving Test Centre on Peachman Way.

That means lessons gradually build towards the journey to Norwich, where you’ll gain experience with:

  • dual carriageways
  • larger roundabouts
  • busier junctions
  • city driving
  • independent driving using sat nav
  • unfamiliar road layouts

By the time your test arrives, driving in Norwich should feel familiar rather than intimidating.

Learning to Park with Confidence

Parking is something many learners worry about, but it quickly becomes easier with the right guidance.

Early manoeuvre practice is usually carried out in quieter locations such as Meadow Road Car Park in Cromer or Sheringham Market Car Park. This gives you space to practise bay parking, reversing and vehicle control before moving on to busier, everyday parking situations.

The aim is not to memorise a routine. It’s to understand how the car moves, how to make safe observations and how to park confidently wherever you go.

Local knowledge makes a difference

Because I teach regularly across Cromer and North Norfolk, I understand the roads, traffic patterns and challenges local learners face. That helps me plan lessons that build confidence gradually, preparing you for both your driving test in Norwich and everyday driving after you pass.

How We Teach At Learning Kerb

Learning to drive is one of the biggest milestones in life, but it can also feel overwhelming. Whether you’re getting behind the wheel for the first time, feeling nervous about making mistakes or returning to driving after a break, my aim is always the same: to help you become a safe, confident driver who enjoys driving, not just someone who passes a test.

Every learner is different, so every lesson is too. Rather than following a fixed lesson plan, I adapt my teaching to suit your confidence, experience and the way you learn best. My role isn’t to put you under pressure or expect perfection. It’s to guide, encourage and support you every step of the way.

Understanding Builds Confidence

One of the biggest mistakes learners make is trying to memorise everything.

Driving doesn’t work like that.

Every junction is different. Every roundabout is different. Every journey presents new situations.

That’s why I believe understanding is far more valuable than memorising routines. During your lessons, I’ll explain not only what to do, but why you’re doing it. Once you understand the reasons behind your decisions, driving starts to feel much more natural and your confidence grows with every lesson.

Lessons Built Around You

No two learners are the same, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Some people progress quickly, while others need a little more time and reassurance. Some enjoy challenging themselves from the beginning, while others prefer to build confidence gradually before moving on to busier roads.

Lessons are always tailored to your individual progress, making sure you feel comfortable before introducing new skills. There’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else and no expectation that you’ll get everything right first time.

Learning to drive should be enjoyable, and building confidence is always more important than rushing towards a test date.

The Learning Kerb Difference

  • Understanding instead of memorising
  • Calm, patient coaching
  • Lessons tailored to the individual
  • Experience supporting nervous learners
  • Listed Motability Scheme driving instructor
  • Driving instructor trainer
  • Preparing you for life after the test

Supporting Every Learner Type

Alongside being a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, I’m also a listed Motability Scheme driving instructor, with additional training to support learners with physical disabilities and a wide range of neurological conditions.

I regularly work with learners who have autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other additional learning needs. Every learner deserves to be taught in a way that works for them, whether that’s breaking skills into smaller steps, using visual explanations or simply allowing a little more time to build confidence.

Many of the learners I work with initially believe they’ll struggle to learn to drive. Seeing that confidence grow over the course of their lessons is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

Continually Improving as an Instructor

Learning never stops, even for driving instructors.

As well as teaching learner drivers across Cromer and North Norfolk, I also train and mentor people who are working towards becoming driving instructors themselves.

Helping future instructors develop their coaching skills keeps me up to date with the latest teaching methods and continually challenges me to improve the way I teach. The same coaching techniques I use when training instructors are used throughout every learner lesson, helping you understand, think independently and become a safer driver.

The Learning Kerb Method

Learning to drive isn’t about memorising routines or simply learning how to pass a test. It’s about understanding how to make safe decisions, building confidence through experience and becoming a driver who feels comfortable behind the wheel for life.

That’s why every lesson follows the same simple approach.

Understand

Every new skill starts with understanding.

Rather than simply telling you what to do, I’ll explain why you’re doing it. Once you understand how driving works and the reasons behind your decisions, learning becomes easier and your confidence grows naturally.

Practice

Confidence comes through practice.

We’ll build your skills gradually in a calm, supportive environment, giving you plenty of opportunities to repeat new skills until they feel comfortable and become second nature.

Experience

Experience is what turns knowledge into confidence.

As your lessons progress, you’ll experience a wide variety of real driving situations around Cromer, North Norfolk and Norwich, helping you develop the judgement and independence needed for everyday driving.

Drive Independently

Passing your driving test is an important milestone, but it’s only the beginning.

The goal of every lesson is to help you become a safe, confident and independent driver who feels comfortable driving wherever life takes you.

"Building confident drivers for life.

Because confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something we build together."

Choose the Learning Style That Suits You

Everyone learns differently, so your driving lessons should fit your goals, confidence and availability.

Whether you want to learn steadily each week, build confidence quickly with an intensive course or return to driving after time away, lessons are planned around you.

The aim is always the same: to help you become a safe, confident driver who understands what they’re doing, not just someone trying to pass a test.

Preparing You for Your Driving Test

Passing your practical driving test is an exciting milestone, but it shouldn’t be the first time you’ve experienced busy roads, unfamiliar junctions or independent driving.

That’s why every lesson is carefully planned to build your confidence gradually, so that by the time your test day arrives, you’re already comfortable driving in the types of situations you’ll be assessed on.

Rather than simply memorising driving test routes, you’ll develop the knowledge, judgement and confidence needed to drive safely wherever the examiner takes you.

From Cromer to Norwich

Although your early lessons will often begin around Cromer and the surrounding villages, your practical driving test will normally take place at the Norwich Driving Test Centre on Peachman Way.

As your confidence grows, lessons naturally progress towards Norwich, giving you experience of:

  • Dual carriageways
  • Larger roundabouts
  • City driving
  • Busier junctions
  • Independent driving using sat nav
  • A wide variety of road layouts and traffic conditions

By the time your driving test arrives, Norwich should feel familiar rather than intimidating because you’ll already have experienced these roads during your lessons.

Building Confidence Before Test Day

As you get closer to your practical test, lessons become increasingly focused on refining your driving and building confidence.

We’ll work on any areas that need a little extra practice, carry out realistic mock driving tests and make sure you’re comfortable driving independently in a wide range of situations.

The aim is for your practical test to feel like just another drive rather than something to fear.

What We'll Cover Before Your Test

Before you’re ready for your practical driving test, you’ll have experience of:

✓ Driving in Cromer, North Norfolk and Norwich

✓ Dual carriageways and higher-speed roads

✓ Independent driving using sat nav

✓ Rural roads and country lanes

✓ Bay parking and parallel parking

✓ Pulling up on the right and reversing

✓ Emergency stop (when appropriate)

✓ Mock driving tests

✓ Show Me, Tell Me questions

✓ Driving safely in a variety of road and traffic conditions

Ready When You Are

You’ll never be encouraged to take your driving test before you’re ready.

When the time comes, you’ll know you’ve developed the skills, experience and confidence needed not only to pass your test, but to enjoy driving independently long afterwards.

Questions learners often ask

Common Questions New Learners Ask

Learning to drive is a big step, and it’s completely normal to have questions before booking your first lesson.

I’ve never driven before. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Everyone has to start somewhere. We’ll begin on quiet roads, take everything one step at a time and make sure you feel comfortable before moving on to anything more challenging.

What if I’m really nervous?

Feeling nervous is very common. Lessons are calm, supportive and tailored to your pace. You’ll never be expected to do something you’re not ready for, and confidence will build naturally as you gain experience.

Will you shout if I make a mistake?

No. Mistakes are part of learning. My role is to guide and support you, not criticise you. Every mistake is simply an opportunity to understand what happened and improve next time.

Do I need to pass my theory test before starting lessons?

No. Many learners start practical lessons while revising for their theory test. Learning the theory and practical side together often helps you understand how the rules apply in real driving situations.

I have autism, ADHD or dyslexia. Can you help?

Yes. As a listed Motability Scheme driving instructor, I have additional training to support learners with physical disabilities and neurological conditions. Lessons are adapted to suit the way you learn best.

How many driving lessons will I need?

Every learner is different. It depends on your experience, confidence, lesson frequency and whether you practise privately. We’ll focus on building safe, independent driving skills rather than rushing towards a test date.

Where will I take my driving test?

Learners from Cromer will usually take their practical driving test at Norwich Driving Test Centre on Peachman Way. Lessons gradually build towards Norwich so city driving and test roads feel familiar.

Am I too old to learn to drive?

Not at all. People learn to drive at every stage of life. Whether you’re learning for work, family, independence or confidence, lessons are tailored around your starting point.
